Traditional Bulgarian spot on the border between Tel-Aviv and Jaffa, serving an older generation of Bulgarian immigrant and other foodies who crave a different flavor.

Kiopoolu

Kiopoolu

Lyutenitsa

Lyutenitsa

for appetizers we had the Kiopoolu – a Bulgarian eggplant salad and the Lyutenitsa which is a roasted pepper dip (at first this seems to be quite sweet for me, but than I understood how well it goes with the Kebab)

Kashkaval Pane

Kashkaval Pane

than we had the Kashkaval Pane – peeled pepper stuffed with cheese, covered with bread crumb and lightly fried.

Lamb Stew

Lamb Stew

For main courses we shared a Bulgarian lamb stew, which with the right presentation could have been a complete fine dinning experience by itself, but the chef had no idea how good it is and served it “casalinga” style.

Bulgerian Kebab

followed by the Bulgarian kebab.

Another successful test for the new grill, a simple combination of chopped onions, parsley, cumin, turkish hot paprika (treditonaly you should add some pine nuts for this, but I ran out of them…), shaped into small cigar shapes, and quickly grilled on each side.

Kebab Combo at the Biryani Cart

Been invited for a day trip to MT Kisco an hour north to NYC by a vegan friend, beside the excitement of leaving the city for a few hours, the anxiety and the big question mark above the question – “so what are we going to eat?”

Knowing that we leave the city from grand central a trip within the metro area as itself, I decided to take an advice from a friend and check the street vendor scene around midtown, one block away from each other two 2008 Vendy Awards Finalists Kwik Meal the vendy runner-up and the people choice winner Biryani Cart brings new magical flavors to midtown.

with the right protein balance of the Kebab Combo or the Chicken Biryani you feel much more confidante on your trip eating by the ice skating at bryant park, seeing some black squalls at MT Kisco

making it back to the city just in time for a new meal at the grand central oyster bar… what a yammi day, apparently overcoming the vegan trip phobias was really worth it.
